Museums and Galleries

We are spoilt here in Toulouse with a great selection of museums and galleries. Here are a few recommendations but make sure you dip into the Tourist Office for further information about other museums and current exhibitions. If you happen to be here on the first Sunday of the month, make the most of free admission to all the city's museums.

Musée des Augustins - 21 rue de Metz; Metro Esquirol
Opening Times: Every day from 10.00 to 18.00, late opening on Wednesdays till 21.00. Entrance fee: €3

This striking Gothic convent is home to Toulouse’s most reputable fine arts museum. With a robust collection of Romanesque sculptures, and paintings from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, Les Augustins impresses easily. It’s sunny interior courtyard planted with hundreds of different herbs and vegetables makes the visit worthwhile in itself.

Les Abattoirs - 76 allées Charles de Fitte; Metro St Cyprien.
Opening Times: Wednesday - Sunday 11.00 to 19.00. Entrance fee: €6

This converted slaughter house is no longer wasted. The city’s modern and contemporary art museum has permanent and temporary exhibitions sharing this stunning space. Movement installations, the odd Picasso and weird and wonderful photography and film; indifference here is impossible. A great interactive museum for children with outdoor space and café.

Galerie Daniel Vignal – 5 rue Perchepinte, Toulouse. Metro les Carmes. Opening Times: Tues - Sat 14.00 to 19.00 and by appointment. Free entry.

Located in beautiful Carmes, this gallery offers a wide choice of contemporary paintings (acrylic, oil and mixed media) and sculptures (wood, bronze, marble) by many international artists. This gallery sets itself apart from others in the city with its friendly and inviting atmosphere. The owner speaks perfect English and is happy to welcome all guests. Exhibitions change every month.
