De Danu Irish Bar - 9 Rue du Pont Guilhemery, 0561625879, 3 minute walk from metro Francois Verdier
Located on the banks of the canal and owned by Irish International and former Stade Toulousain player Trevor Brennan, this bar is a firm favourite of the English and French speaking communities in Toulouse. The bar has an impressive array of rugby memorabilia and there is no better place to be to catch all the sporting action on TV. On home match days the party atmosphere begins before the match and continues well into the evening.
(Open Monday to Saturday 18.00 to 02.00 and until 03.00 Saturday)
If you are looking for something particularly French, then here are two places in Toulouse that you do not want to miss:
Au Père Louis - 45 rue des Tourneurs, 2 Minutes from Esquirol
This bar is a Toulouse institution with wine barrels as tables, wooden floors and frescos. Au Père Louis has barely changed since it opened over a century ago. You can have a unique French aperitif experience by ordering a glass of quinquina based alcohol and a plate of freshly cut jambon sec.
(Open Monday to Saturday 08.30 to 15.00 and 17.00 to 22.30)
Victor Hugo Market - Place Victor Hugo, 2 mintues from Place Wilson
There are several bars in Victor Hugo market where locals sip local wine and Armagnac, while taking in the bustle of the market. Whether you are taking a break from shopping, having a local aperitif before you head upstairs for lunch, or finishing your night of clubbing with a steak and a glass of wine; this Toulouse experience cannot be equaled!
(Open Tuesday to Sunday 06.00 to 13.30)
