There are few areas in Toulouse where you're not within a couple of metres of a café. These typically French institutions provide not only a strong espresso or café crème to start the morning but also allow for an interesting insight into the daily life and habits of local Toulousain. The best places in Toulouse to experience the café culture are Place du Capitol, Place Saint George or Place Wilson, where sipping an espresso or demi peche surrounded by beautiful architecture is a local pastime. If you fancy a slice of cake venture to Place Puits Clos just off Alsace Lorraine for local cafés serving both hot drinks and enticing delicacies.
Unlike other European cities, typical night-time venues can be slightly off the beaten track in Toulouse. They are there, it's just a matter of finding them. There are two main happening areas. The first is Boulevard Strasbourg/Rue Gabriel Peri, and the other is Place St. Pierre. Here a buzzing bar scene can be found with music to suit every taste.
The main areas to avoid at night are Place du Capitole and Place St. George. Although these areas are buzzing with activity throughout the day, at night they can often be deserted.
Check out the following:Rue Gabriel Peri - Just off Boulevard Strasbourg
This road is laden with cool bars and vibrant late night venues. Atmospheric wine and coctail bar La Maison, Salsa bar/club Taxi Brousse, beautiful Spanish late bar Bodega Bodega, Mexican bar/club/restaurant Tex Mex...and loads more. A great area for dinner, drinks and late night dancing.
Place Saint Pierre - a mere 5 minutes walk from the center, on the banks of the Garonne river.
This is the area where the uni students of Toulouse come to party. Place St. Pierre boasts several bars with large outdoor areas for sipping a beer during the warm Toulouse evenings, which turn into one of Toulouse's main party scenes as the night rolls in. Bars include rugby mad Pub St. Pierre, Pastis bar Chez Ton Ton, dance and music venues La Couleur de la Culotte and Le St des Seins. All bars close at 2am during the week and 3am on Saturday night.
